North Devon farmland is no place for 1.5GW

Xlinks plans a 1.5GW AI data centre and a huge battery site on about 850 acres of farmland near Great Torrington. It says applications will go to Torridge District Council in the new year. More than 37,000 people have already signed the local petition.

How you can help

North Devon is already organised: please sign the Leave Devon Alone petition and join Devon CPRE's objector register. Sign up here and we'll tell you the moment Xlinks lodges its applications, so you can object.

Why local people are worried

1.5GWOne of the biggest data centres proposed anywhere in the UK.
850 acresFarmland between Great Torrington, Huntshaw and Weare Giffard.
BatteriesA 1.8GW battery storage site alongside it.

Get ready to object

There's no planning application yet, so there's nothing formal to object to. This is the time to get organised, tell the developer and councillors what you think, and be ready when the application goes in.

  • Good planning grounds include: impact on the Green Belt or countryside, energy use and carbon, water supply, noise, traffic, wildlife and heritage. Developers' promises are not guarantees: ask for them to be made binding.

Respond to Xlinks' consultation (valeon@devondatacampus.com for the data centre, battery@devondatacampus.com for the battery storage, freephone 0800 888 6922); register with Devon CPRE's objector register; object formally on Torridge's planning portal once applications are lodged
